CSG enters the space domain

We are entering the space domain through a 9.5% stake in MDA Space – one of the most advanced companies in the industry. We are also building a strong team for the long-term development of our space activities. For the Group, with its strong foundation in land systems, ammunition, advanced technologies and defence, space represents a natural next step.

Space economy and security in numbers

While global spending on space defence and the space economy is growing at a record pace, Europe accounts for only a fraction of global financing.

We see this gap as a key opportunity. We are building on decades of experience in defence technologies and developing capabilities that will ensure security and self-sufficiency for Europe, including in orbit.

Security is increasingly decided in orbit

Space is no longer a distant frontier, but has become a full-fledged operational domain alongside land, air and sea. The activities of modern armed and security forces directly depend on it – whether it involves communication, navigation, reconnaissance, or early warning systems.

The defence and space sectors are closely interconnected from a technological perspective. Precision engineering, electronics, radar systems, propulsion systems and secure communications represent fields in which our Group has been operating for decades. The development of space capabilities is therefore not a step into the unknown for us, but a natural extension of our existing know-how.

We are not entering the space industry from scratch

The investment in MDA Space is our biggest step to date, but not our first.

We have been working on building our presence in the space sector for a long time – from initial smaller investments to acquiring a strategic stake and building our own in-house team.

Investment through Tech Horizons

Through the Tech Horizons fund, we acquired stakes in the British company SatVu and the German company Atmos Space Cargo. These initial investments gave us valuable practical experience in the space technology market.

9.5% stake in MDA Space

A strategic investment in an established company with a proven history and a diversified portfolio. This step creates opportunities for closer business cooperation between the two groups and the expansion of service offerings for our customers.

In-house space team

Alongside our investments, we are building our own expert capabilities. Our team combines extensive experience in space technologies, defence, national security, corporate development with knowledge of the Canadian aerospace and defence market.
