Kopřivnice-based truck manufacturer Tatra Trucks increased production output and revenues in 2025

Press releases
During 2025, Tatra Trucks significantly increased its production output while also achieving higher revenues. Last year, the manufacturer sold 1,337 vehicles and produced a total of 1,349 units. Thanks to a broad product mix dominated by technologically demanding vehicles with high added value, production output rose by 19% year-on-year in 2025. Revenues also increased, by 5%. A particularly strong increase was recorded in the production of Tatra’s own eight-cylinder and twelve-cylinder engines, with total output rising by an exceptional 150%. The final quarter of 2025 was the strongest period of the year in terms of production.

From a long-term perspective, Tatra Trucks has been steadily accelerating the production of vehicles and chassis, as well as engines, cabins and transmissions of its own design. “The increase in production output and revenues last year was driven primarily by orders for vehicles and chassis for armed forces and fire and rescue services, which include a significantly higher share of components manufactured in-house, including Tatra engines. In 2025, the defence sector accounted for the largest share of produced vehicles - more than 1,000 units - representing an increase of several hundred vehicles compared to 2024,” explained Kristijan Fiket, CEO of Tatra Trucks. Given the international situation and contracts for the Czech Armed Forces and other NATO partner countries, vehicles and chassis for defence projects continue to represent the most significant portion of Tatra’s production, largely thanks to cooperation with partner companies within the CSG Group.

Nearly two hundred vehicles were produced for fire and rescue services and delivered in cooperation with Tatra’s traditional partners specialising in firefighting superstructures. Additional vehicles were supplied to customers in civilian sectors such as construction, municipal services, mining and agriculture. In terms of exports, approximately 61% of Tatra’s total 2025 production was delivered to foreign customers. The most important markets included the Netherlands, Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, Austria and Australia. Among the most distant destinations for Tatra vehicles last year were South Korea and Brazil.

Investments in modern technologies and production capacities

In 2025, the company also announced the largest investment programme in its modern history. “The core strategy of this programme is to increase production capacity, strengthen the global competitiveness of Tatra vehicles, and transform the company’s premises into a modern and sustainable industrial complex for the future. Investments will be financed through a combination of bank loans, subsidies and an increase in share capital. The programme includes the modernisation of production technologies, process digitalisation, construction of a new production hall and a central logistics warehouse, as well as securing the long-term sustainable development of the foundry and forging operations,” said Daniel Bekeš, CFO of Tatra Trucks. For 2026, the company’s management expects to maintain the current pace, further strengthen production, development and testing capacities, and increase manufacturing productivity to exceed 2,000 vehicles produced annually.

A major step towards increasing production capacity and ensuring smoother assembly processes was the opening of a new wiring harness manufacturing facility directly at the Kopřivnice plant in early October 2025. The facility operates in a two-shift system with a capacity of up to 6,000 standard hours per month and employs several dozen workers. In addition to supplementing supplies from external vendors, it allows flexible responses to specific production requirements of Tatra and its partners and customers.

Defence sector production clearly dominates

“Over the past two years, Tatra has fully ramped up serial production of the latest generations of its two core model ranges - Tatra Force and Tatra Phoenix. At last year’s IDET defence exhibition in Brno, we also introduced a modernised version of the third model range under the designation Tatra 810M, bringing technical, performance and ergonomic improvements that reflect current and future requirements for modern medium-category military logistics vehicles,” said Radomír Smolka, Member of the Board of Directors of Tatra Trucks responsible for Research and Development. This vehicle is also the subject of a major contract for 4,000 vehicles valued at more than USD 1 billion, to be executed over the next four years for a customer in Southeast Asia. The contract was secured by Tatra Defence Slovakia, a CSG Group company. Production will be carried out at the Moldava nad Bodvou plant by MSM Land Systems, which operates the facility and is also part of the CSG Group. In close cooperation with Tatra Trucks, both companies will thus complement and expand Tatra’s production capacities.

Last year, deliveries of Tatra Force vehicles to the Czech and Slovak armed forces continued under framework agreements concluded in previous years between the Czech Ministry of Defence and Tatra Defence Systems (TDS), a CSG Group company, with Tatra Trucks acting as a subcontractor, primarily supplying chassis and engines. Under these agreements, the Czech Armed Forces could acquire up to 872 Tatra Force 6×6 and 8×8 vehicles in flatbed and hook-loader configurations by 2031. The Slovak Republic joined the agreement in December 2024 with the intention of purchasing up to 350 Tatra Force 6×6 and 8×8 vehicles in the same configurations. In December 2025, the Slovak Ministry of Defence concluded a separate framework agreement with TDS for the delivery of up to an additional 1,289 military vehicles of the Tatra Force range in dozens of variants and special versions. At the end of 2025, Croatia also joined the framework agreement, allowing its armed forces to order up to 420 Tatra Force vehicles in 6×6 and 8×8 configurations. The contract will be implemented through a joint European procurement scheme and financed from the SAFE defence instrument.

Electrified vehicles arrive as the T 815 legend comes to an end

Alongside serial production of its standard model ranges, Tatra Trucks has for several years been developing vehicles with alternative powertrains under the Tatra Force e-Drive line. “Last autumn, together with our partners, we launched the development of an entirely new hydrogen-powered truck, the Tatra Force e-Drive FCEV 6×4. The project is co-financed by the Czech Agency for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (API), and we plan to complete it by mid-2028. This is the second Tatra project involving hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, and its result will be a prototype three-axle utility vehicle for municipal services, featuring options for automated driving, drone-based LiDAR monitoring and remote control,” explained Jakub Pončík, CTO of Tatra Trucks. In addition to being environmentally friendly, the vehicle will offer entirely new operating modes thanks to advanced electronic systems and driver-assistance and automation features.

During a ceremonial event at the e-Salon 2025 trade fair held in November at the PVA EXPO Prague exhibition centre, Tatra unveiled its first fully battery-electric truck, the Tatra Force e-Drive BEV 8×8, in a world premiere. The project received funding under the TAČR TREND programme. Development was carried out in cooperation with Devinn, which implemented the high-voltage system, and Eaton, which supplied a special four-speed automated transmission. The Tatra Force e-Drive BEV 8×8 is intended to verify the installation of a fully electric powertrain with traction batteries in a heavy-duty truck designed for mixed on-road and extreme off-road operation, typical for construction and mining industries. For this reason, the prototype was designed as a tipper with Tatra’s characteristic chassis featuring a central backbone tube, swinging half-axles and all-wheel drive.

After 42 years of production, the last vehicle of the Tatra 815 model range rolled off the Kopřivnice production line on 25 February last year. It was a Tatra 815-2 Terra 6×6, which, after the installation of a special superstructure, has been serving with the Czech fire brigade for several months. The latest generations of the Tatra Force and Tatra Phoenix ranges are available in a wide variety of configurations and versions and have fully replaced the oldest Tatra Terra model range. Its production has therefore ended, closing an important chapter in Tatra’s history.
